32. Lee Bul

One of the leading Korean Contemporary artist of her time is Lee Bul. This woman is talented in so many areas of art, painting, installations, video, drawing and sculpture. She grew up in Seoul, graduated from Hongik University, with a BFA in sculpture.

Her talents have earned her solo presentations around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York (1997); the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2002), which are just a few; and most recently the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan (2012).

This woman's style is right up my alley. She creates these intricate, mystical works that takes me to this paranormal world. Many of her pieces have a feminine asthetic. The image below looks like a chandelier, but reminds me of a females jewlery box, with tons of beautiful items. Bul overloads a variety of materials, and executes them differently, throughout her works. The drapery effect she creates is really amazing.

Another chandelier type work by Bul. This one however is low to the ground, almost like is broken.

Monster, ink on paper

This is another example of her use of a variety of materials, which has a different feel from the chandelier, this one seems like its alive. Love her work!!
