21. Chris Natrop

Chris Natrop received his BFA in painting at the School of the Art insitute of Chicago in 1993. Natrops works consists of Installations of fibrious paper cut outs. Natrop is based in Los Angeles, California and has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Natrop creates these pieces with intricate shapes and forms, that expose cast shadows. His pieces take me to a place of an exotic forest. The sun has set, and colors fill the forest, illuminating colors and exposing the shapes of his forms. None of his forms are unrecognizeable, which adds to the mystery of his works.

Random thought but it would be cool if he had fans blowing in some of his installations, it would really bring his pieces to life. The shadows on the wall would really stand out.

The paper Natrop uses is Lenox 100, which has 100% rag fibre content of fine art and printmaking papers. Natrop does very little pre planing and free-hands many of his, negative space peices.

Some of his works reminds me of cradle ornaments, you would see in a babies bed. The stringy pieces with larges shapes dangling down.
