28. Will Mcbride

Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1931, Will Mcbride spent his childhood in Chicago. He attended Grosse Point Highschool, were he went on to attend the Art Institue of Chicago and the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts.

After his Military service for the U.S Army in Germany, he stayed and attended school while becoming a freelance photographer in Berlin. In 1983 he opended a photo studio in Frankfurt.
McBride who paints, sculpts and does photography, does some very interesting pieces.

I really like the cast in the play hair in the boxes. Their is varitey in the boxes, with size and shape, varity with the individuals, children adults; and they all seem to be chillin in these boxes. The fact that its not in color, really makes you want to explore the enitre picture.
                                                                 
Next is the boy in the locker. The first thing I thought of was, highschool bullies. The locker really emphasizes the boys long body, the the locker kind of adds of frame to the photograph

  


Now Mcbride also has talent with sculptors. However, I must say when I was viewing his works in the library, I felt pretty akward, like people thought I had a fetish for penis. For myself and as an artist nudity is something you see all the time, but Mcbride does it in a way that rasies many questions. Like, why many of his male sculptors are hard.
My anwser would be he couldn't portray this aspect in his photography with real human males, becuase it would have been veiwed probably as porn, so he does it with his sculptors.

Falling Boy


I really like his sculptor titled, Falling Boy. I get the vibe that the Boy is not falling down physically, but mentally. One of the aspects of the sculptor I do find interesting, are the cast like figures.Reminds me of the a snake who has just shed his skin.

Mcbride, also does paintings were he uses once again the penis. Over all his paintings shows his talent in another area of art, however they don't awww me like his sculptors or photographs.
 His works, again raises question of what are his thoughts when he is painting these images.
