10. Kate McDowel

Kate McDowell graduated From Brown University with a BA in English and American Literature and Masters of the Arts in Teaching in English. Her pieces are created out of porcelain due to "its luminous and ghostly qualities as well as its strength and ability to show fine texture".
McDowell pieces represent the "romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact of the environment". McDowell merges human aspects with nature.

Her work reminds me of Patricia Picinini, creating these weird pieces that would normally evoke a feeling of disgust of discomfort, but they transform the pieces to display compassion and comfort. One wants to examine and look at every angle to figure out what the artist is trying to convey. McDowell works are very detailed and you can tell every aspect is closely paid attention to.

Her works where she has opened the pieces to show the content inside, random, but it reminds me of the large chocolate bunnies you get during Easter. Only when one opens these ones up you get a surprise of the skeleton.
