Morrison who was born in Massachusetts moved to New Jersey as a child. For a while Morrison gained street credit for his colorful graffiti. However, growing up in an environment where break dancing, pop locking and being a "B" boy was more important, Morrison joined a dance crews, toured with The Sugar Hill Gang, appeared on "Show Time At the Apollo preformed in rap videos and appeared in "New Jack City". While fulfilling his dream as a "B" boy he was able to visit The Louvre Museum in Paris, were his passion for art returned. He returned to New York and started building a brand for himself.
Morrison took his environment and his experiences created work that was relate-able to the African American community. He has received commissions from radio/TV commentator Tom Joyner, the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, has had his art displayed in prestigious shows such as "The National Black Fine Arts Show" by Jocelyn Wainwright.
One can see that many African American Artist are inspired by his style of elongated figures, rhythmic moments and the lifestyles of our culture.
In Morrison's card game, reminds me of expereinces with my family palying spades. The games get so intense. Girls vs. Boys, and the boys get so mad when they are lossing. The fact that the girl has the card held high, and her arm is stretched to the celing, you know she has that winning card. Her partner is cheering her on like "you go girl".
The movements and positions of the characters, shows their in action, almost like you can predict their next move. The color scheme he used was effective, using warm colors.
