12. Carl Warner

Carl Warner who began his career and established himself as a still life photographer, came up with a different concept for his still lifes. Unlike Akiko Ida and Pierre Javelle and their mini sculptors on top of food, Carl Warner focuses of a different aspect of food art. They call him the foodscaper. Warner who is a photographer focuses on the landscape using food. Everything is made out of edible items and are transformed in to beautiful pastures, mountains and roads.

Here, the broccoli resembles tress exactly, the different branches and the bright greens leaves. The different herbs are grass and weeds. Even though the arrangements look eatable, one cannot eat them due to the use of glue.

Warner's Foodscapes are created on a triangular shaped table top. Then Warner, with the help of his food stylist create the sets. Next he photographs the foodscapes in layers from foreground to background. Even though the process is very time consuming, the food has to be quickly photographed, because the food wilts under the strong lighting used.

“I tend to draw a very conventional landscape using classic compositional techniques as I need to fool the viewer into thinking it is a real scene at first glance, it is the realisation that the scene is in fact made of food that brings a smile that brings a smile to the viewer, and for me that’s the best part”

A couple of his images I didn't believe everything was made of food, but I love how the ground looks like a pastry or bread.
