15. Maurizio Cattelan

Now I have done my favorite sculptors, but this man has a very odd way of making his sculptors appeal to me. His name is Maurizio Cattelan an he is an Italian artist based in New York. Cattelan did not attend art school and taught himself through trial and error. Cattelan worked several jobs (cook, gardener, nurse..etc) before he started creating art. Which lead him to start creating functional furniture.

Cattelan's combines sculpture and performance, and adds his touch of irony and humor.  Many of the topics he chooses to explore in his works may seem controversial and hard to understand, but I like an artist who does art their way instead of what is politically correct in the art world.

‘bidibidobidiboo’, 1996
bidibidobidiboo is my favorite piece, a squirrel slouched over on a table, as if was human. There is a gun on the floor, so I would assume he committed suicide but their is no blood that I can see in the image.

Many Cattelan's works automatically make you chuckle, like this is clearly not normal, however this is what sets him apart from other artist who will not step outside the box.

Cattelan's has definitely made a name for himself, having had several solo exhibitions, such as the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York and the museum of contemporary art, in Los Angeles..
