16. Keith Haring

I remember watching shows like living color and seeing Keith Harings, bright energetic figures on the TV screen. The figures are simple, but are filled with life and movement and sometimes simple images have big impacts.

Haring was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and raised in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Developed his passion and skill in art from his father and other surrounding inspirations. He attended the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh, a commercial arts school. However he soon realized this was not his passion and dropped out after a couple semesters. He eventually attend (SVA) School of Visual Arts in New York. Their he found an Art community in the streets of NYC which inspired him greatly. He started to gain recognition for his art, doing chalk drawings in subways. During this time "The Radiant Baby" became his symbol.

Harings worked spread like a wild fire and in the 1980s, he was featured in over 100 solo and group exhibitions. Even though his career as an artist was short lived, he collaborated and worked with big name individuals. He was an artist and social activist who's work was sparked by the New York streets.

Haring died in 1990 of AIDS-related complications
